Hello again, it has been great checking out different schools' blogs - you all seem to be having as much fun as we are. We loved having the opportunity to make our very own balloon rockets, it was great sending them flying across the classroom. We discussed how to keep the experiment fair and in the end we found out that the more air that was compressed, the further or rockets travelled. Check out our photos!!!

In the eighteenth century, the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were not yet known to exist (as well as a lot of the minor moons of the gas giants, and the two moons of Mars).

Our photographs therefore feature only six planets and some of their major moons. The order of the planets is: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

Did you know that the orrery was once a centrepiece of eighteenth-century London coffeehouse lectures? Lecturers would use it to demonstrate the motions of planets around the sun, and moons around the planets, explaining phenomena ranging from comets, eclipses and the phases of the moon to the seasons and day and night.

Hello from Primary Five/Six! We want to share with you our learning so far. We began a few weeks ago learning about the Sun, Earth and our moon. We learnt that the earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the earth. We also learnt about gravity and why larger objects have a greater gravitational pull. We then started looking more at our Solar System. We had a lot of fun thinking of mneumonics to help us remember the order of the planets. Here is one... My Very Excited Monster Jaguar Skipped Under Nana's Penguin and another... My Very Energetic Monkey Jumps and Swings Under Noses! and one more... My Very Elderly Mother Just Sits Until Noon Passes! This week we learned about the distances between the planets and over the next few weeks we are going to carry out our own personal research and find out much more.

Hello everyone, this is Primary Five/Six from St Mary's Primary School in Greenock. We are really enjoying the Ticket to Space project and would like to share our Solar System that we made in class, using papier-mache.
